How It All Started

Where the idea came from

I found that doing my Family Research made me really happy, so have taken the plunge and started doing some genealogy courses to become certified in genealogy and start my own Family Research company, specializing in Scottish genealogy.  My background in Business Analysis and Project Management helps keep me focused and organized! family historian is much easier.

I found that doing my Family Research made me really happy, so have taken the plunge and started doing some genealogy courses to become certified in genealogy and start my own Family Research company, specializing in Scottish genealogy.  My background in Business Analysis and Project Management helps keep me focused and organized!  As of February 2023, I have successfully completed 21 courses towards the Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies (PLCGS) with 19 more to go!

Due to some of the surprises that have popped up when digging, the name Skeletons in the Closet seemed appropriate!

Our Logo's

We wanted something whimsical to reflect the name of the company 'Skeletons in the Closet' and also to show that our specialty is Scottish ancestry. We went to a company in Yellowknife, NT, Canada (where we used to live) to help us with the design and instead of one, they came up with three!  We are absolutely delighted with the outcome.  Thank you Sylvia and the team at Signed YK!

Oh and did you wonder about the little rodent?  He represents Hamish Hamsterheid of Hamsterheid Productions, the company that Skeletons in the Closet lives under!

Genealogy Society Memberships

Why Join Genealogy Societies?

Genealogy  Societies are organizations that allow you to network with others who  love genealogy and family history, to build our skills through  collaboration, courses and conferences and provides access to records  and information not readily available to the general public.

I have become a member of the following Societies to help me (and you!) in my Family Research.

Scottish Genealogy Society

The objective of the Scottish Genealogy Society is to advance education and lifelong learning by promoting the study of Scottish family history and genealogy.

West Lothian Family History Society

This Society was formed in November 2000 to assist those researching family history and genealogy throughout the county of Wet Lothian.

Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society

In 1977, a newspaper advert invited interested parties to come to a meeting with a view to forming a new Society to “promote the study of family history in Glasgow and the west of Scotland” and the Glasgow & West of Scotland Family History was founded as a Charity run by a Council of volunteers.

BC Genealogical Society

The  British Columbia Genealogical Society (BCGS) was incorporated in 1971.  In 2021, the Society turned 50 years old.  Members have been  researching, preserving and publishing their own family histories and  that of British Columbia, Canada families. A primary focus of the  Society is to give individuals and groups the necessary skills to carry  out their own research.

Meet the Team

Wilma

Ghillie - Wilma's Assistant

Wilma

Me!  I'm Scottish but have lived in Canada to be with Dave when I was 27 (we met in Edinburgh.)  W were married in Yellowknife in 1987 and moved to Victoria BC in 2009.

Wilma

My hubby Dave. He was born in Vancouver, moved to Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories when he was a kid. then to Scotland when he was 13.   He picks up the slack when I'm working, running my errands for me.  He's also an amazing photographer.

Ghillie - Wilma's Assistant

Ghillie is the newest member of the team.  His name is Gaelic for man-servant, and this is essentially what his role entails.  The Ghillie is your personal assistant while you are fishing!  So, while I ‘fish’ for your relatives, Ghillie will be right by my side helping out.

Hamish Hamsterheid (named after our company Hamsterheid Productions!).  He's a live-wire and keeps us all on his toes with his energy and antics.  His favourite pastime after barking is snuggling with us.

Our special girl  Molly, who crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on November 27, 2021.  She was very much loved and is very much missed.
